Bravo, Rolf! I like very much your post too, and particularly the point about the Reformation quarrels. Remember the disputatio of Luther and Zwingli on the Eucharist? At the end all that remains is that Luther stood up and wrote in the table "this IS my body": cheap theology, but masterful campaigning. Though perhaps it would not have been efficient (like Obama's "yes we can") without the implicit shared knowledge that Luther was an extremely deep and learned theologian (and that Obama is very capable). Taking up your final point, maybe we could say (late at night, in a pub) that campaign is to democracy like foam is to German beer. More on that next Tuesday. And many thanks for your post!
